Why Am I Still Getting Bitten After Treating My Pet?
Treating the pet takes care of the fleas on the animal, but it does not take care of the eggs and developing fleas already in the home. Fleas can continue developing in carpet, furniture, bedding, and the places where the pet rests. The home may need treatment at the same time as the pet.
What Needs to Be Done Before Flea Treatment?
Before we treat the home, the pets need separate flea treatment and the areas where fleas may be developing need to be cleaned. We’ll explain what needs to be completed before the appointment.
Treat the Pets
Have every dog or cat in the home treated for fleas before we arrive. We do not apply flea products to animals.
Vacuum the Home
Vacuum the carpet, along the baseboards, under beds and furniture, and anywhere the pets sleep or rest.
Wash the Pet Bedding
Wash pet bedding, blankets, and other washable items used by the pets. This helps remove fleas and eggs from the areas they use most.
When Should the Yard Be Checked for Fleas?
If pets spend time outside or animals are moving through the property, we may also need to check the yard. Some Ojai properties have shaded ground beneath mature trees and shrubs where pets or other animals rest. If we find flea activity outside, we’ll explain which areas need treatment instead of treating the entire yard.
